Situated at the gateway to the UNESCO world heritage of the "Upper Middle-Rhine Valley" and in the middle of four winegrowing regions, though Bingen is often called the Grand Canyon of the Romantic.
The region between Bingen, Mainz and Alzey, known as Toscana of Rhine-Hessia, and the Middle-Rhine Valley attracts with its castles, hiking trails (Rheinsteig, Rhine-castle-trail), biking trails at Rhine and Nahe, parcs on former gardenshow, Klopp castle (now: city hall) and numerous wine festivals.
The famous landmark mice tower is located on a small island on river Rhine in front of the city.
The Chapel of St. Roch (German: Rochuskapelle) is a German pilgrimage chapel, dedicated to Saint Roch, on the Rochusberg southeast of Bingen am Rhein. Since 350 years, every year in August, pilgrims from all over the world are gathering there as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe did in 1814.
